On Saturday, March 12 from 1:30-3:30 the public is invited to a free workshop with gamelan master, Joko Sutrisno. All ages and skill levels are welcome to participate!
Sutrisno is a graduate of the Academy of Performing Arts in Surakarta, Central Java, and an accomplished Javanese gamelan performer, composer, and teacher. He moved to the Twin Cities in 1995 to be the director of the gamelan of the Schubert Club. Joko and his wife Tri became artistic directors of Sumunar, an organization established to promote understanding of and appreciation for Indonesian music, dance, and culture, in 2002.
The free workshop will be held in the National Music Museum’s Groves Gallery for Special Exhibitions ahead of the exhibition opening of “Gamelan: A Way of Life” later this month.
