HIGH STRUNG

FIVE CENTURIES OF STRINGED KEYBOARD INSTRUMENTS

Opening in March 2024, the special exhibition “High Strung: Five Centuries of Stringed Keyboard Instruments” will explore the form, function and development of keyboard instruments from early harpsichords to the modern piano. The special exhibition brings together nearly 20 keyboard instruments from the NMM’s collections - some of which have never before been on exhibit.

A WAY OF LIFE

“Learning about gamelan music is learning about life,” according to gamelan master Midiyanto. Celebrate the music and instruments of the Kyai Rengga Manis Everist Gamelan and discover how gamelan is a reflection of Indonesian lessons, values and culture.

NMM Goes Electric! interprets the history of electric stringed instruments through objects from the National Music Museum's permanent collections, including many that have never previously been highlighted! From the early 1900s to the digital era, join us on a journey through the history of electric guitars, violins, banjolines, and more.
