Discovery Saturday Family Day with Duke Otherwise

Free Children’s Concert at the National Music Museum's August Discovery Saturday

Families are invited to sing, dance and laugh along with nationally touring children's entertainer Duke Otherwise during the National Music Museum's (NMM) August Discovery Saturday on Saturday, August 1. Duke's free performance begins at 11:00 a.m. and highlights a full day of family-friendly activities, including free museum admission, hands-on crafts, interactive activities and a guided family tour at 1:00 p.m.

Known for his clever original songs, playful storytelling and energetic audience participation, Duke Otherwise delights children and adults alike. A skilled guitarist, captivating tap dancer and spirited performer, he creates an interactive musical experience that encourages families to laugh, move, sing and experience music together.

Based in Madison, Wisconsin, Duke performs nearly 150 shows each year at libraries, schools, festivals, theaters and community events throughout the Midwest and beyond. His original music features memorable characters, imaginative storytelling and a wide variety of musical styles that inspire creativity while entertaining audiences of all ages.

Following the concert, families are encouraged to continue their Discovery Saturday adventure by exploring the museum's world-renowned galleries, creating hands-on crafts and participating in

interactive activities throughout the day. At 1:00 p.m., Museum Educator, Anna Van Kley will lead a guided family tour designed to bring the collection to life through engaging stories and fascinating instruments.

Discovery Saturday activities are generously supported by the Margaret Ann Martin Everist Foundation.

Discovery Saturdays take place on the first Saturday of each month and feature unique educational activities, guided experiences and family-friendly programming throughout the museum.
